June 29, 2017

The requirements are focused on the essentials necessary for maintaining access to health care during disasters.

A new guideline and survey was released by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the subject of emergency preparedness procedures that became effective in November 2016.

On September 16, 2016, the final rule on Emergency Preparedness Requirements for Medicare and Medicaid Participating Providers and Suppliers was published (Federal Register Vol. 81, No. 180). This rule affects all 17 provider and supplier types eligible for participation in Medicare.

The requirements are focused on three essentials necessary for maintaining access to health care during disasters or emergencies: safeguarding human resources, maintaining business continuity, and protecting physical resources.
