Guidelines for Using Aluminum in Green Buildings

A new guideline has been released that helps end users better utilize aluminum products in green building design and renovation by providing information on the metal’s lifecycle characteristics and environmental impact. In addition to including EPDs for aluminum in North America, the Aluminum in Green Buildings: A Guide to Green Building Development and Certification with Aluminum Products guide includes information about products and systems that can contribute to earning credits for LEED v4 certification.

While the guideincludes information about using aluminum for the LEED program, it also incorporates an overview of other certification system requirements and how the use of aluminum materials can help achieve certification goals. Additionally, the guide contains the findings of the aluminum industry’s sustainability research and studies to support the business case for green improvements.
