Though many organizations have developed emergency response plans, a new survey shows almost 25% of workers still say they don’t know what they would do to protect themselves in the case of an office emergency that posed a physical threat.
The study, conducted on behalf of CareerBuilder by Harris Poll, shows that while over 90% of workers believe that their office is a secure place to work in general, 30% believe it’s not well protected from physical or cyber attacks. Only 40% noted that their organization had guidance on how to handle altercations with another person.
The survey also demonstrates that while 85% of occupants feel their workplace is resilient against acts-of-god such as fire, floods, or other disasters, over 20% report that the company does not have an emergency plan in place to respond to such an event.
“Keeping employees protected means not only putting measures in place to keep them safe, but making sure employees are aware of the policies and procedures,” says Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder.
