New Registry for Environmental Product Declarations

Database will aid in making green purchasing decisions.
While the interest in green building certifications including LEED and Green Globes continues to grow, so too does the market for environmentally-friendly building materials. A new resource has been created to assist building professionals in making eco-friendly purchasing decisions – the Environmental Product Declaration Registry. The database is searchable by product name or manufacturer and can help decision-makers better understand the environmental impact of specific building products.
Environmental product declarations (EPDs) measure environmental impact across five areas – potential to contribute to global warming, ozone depletion, acidification, eutrophication, and smog-producing capabilities. Not only can reviewing EPDs make it easier to gain green certification for new construction or retrofits, they are also created in a uniform manner based on a lifecycle cost analysis, meaning they provide a standardized way to evaluate product characteristics and qualities.
