The EPA has updated rules that will make it easier for manufacturers to sell fuel conversion systems. These conversion systems typically allow vehicles to run with alternative fuels, allowing energy security, fuel cost, and emissions needs to be dealt with sustainably with an eco-friendly focus.
These changes showcase the EPA’s interest in encouraging innovation, spurred on on the President’s January 18th 2011 executive order to identify and consider regulatory approaches to reduce burdens and maintain flexibility and freedom of choice.
Revised procedures vary based on the age of the vehicle or engine being converted. This involves streamlining procedures for older vehicles and engines while maintaining environmental safeguards. Unlike a “one-size-fits-all” approach, the process is now based on the age of the vehicle or engine.
When engineered properly, a conversion system can reduce emissions, but a poorly designed one can actually lead to greatly increased pollution.
