ABB Lighting adds value to LED luminaires with custom lighting controls

Belvidere, NJ | ABB Lighting, a manufacturer of customized LED luminaires in the United States and Canada, is making it easier to navigate the new world of smart lighting, by offering custom lighting controls on advanced LED luminaires. ABB offers custom photo sensors, motion sensors, vacancy sensors, occupancy sensors, timers, wired and wireless controls and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) systems. ABB Lighting provides custom lighting controls from the industry’s leading brands, including Lutron, Leviton, Watt Stopper/Legrand, and others.
ABB Lighting uniquely pairs its cutting edge line of advanced LED luminaires with its recent acquisition of a 6,000 square foot machine shop in NJ that has been customizing commercial luminaires with lighting controls for over 15 years. For indoor applications, company president Greg Murphy shared that 0-10V systems are currently dominating. Both 2-wire and 3-wire solutions are available in 0-10V controls. For outdoor applications, there are new microwave sensors/control combinations that can be placed inside the luminaire and sense motion right through an aluminum housing. Says Murphy, “These special sensors avoid the need for drilling through a housing that can compromise the IP rating of an outdoor fixture. The technology is quite remarkable.” When asked about the future of controls, Murphy is seeing growing interest in ABB’s wifi-wireless control of luminaires from a smart phone app. “While current controls are typically enabling on-off, dimming, and color-tuning, I see rapid expansion of sensors for a rich, two-way flow of data and control. IoT is ideal for lighting,” states Murphy.
