Pioneer in smart street lighting and smart city IoT expands US arm with industry experts

Telensa, the leader in smart city IoT solutions using long-range low-power radio, has announced that it has strengthened its US operation with three highly experienced industry experts. These strategic appointments coincide with the company’s growing momentum in the US market with contract wins and pilot deployments in major cities such as Atlanta GA, San Francisco CA and Bellevue WA. Telensa has now deployed its ultra narrow band (UNB) radio technology in 9 million devices in 30 countries around the world and operates several of the world’s largest wireless street lighting control networks.

Tim Dodge has joined the company as regional sales manager, US East. He comes to Telensa with 11 years of experience in the outdoor street lighting industry, including GE Lighting, Acuity Brands and Philips Lighting. He has a strong track record successfully managing strategic accounts and leading sales teams to secure new technology growth.

Sara Tabacchi has been appointed regional sales manager, US West, and has a wealth of experience in the lighting industry including GE Lighting, with a strong record developing and implementing strategic plans to drive adoption of new technology.

Paul Premo has also been named as technical support manager, North America, to support large-scale networks that the company is currently deploying. Paul is a Certified Broadband Engineer with more than 20 years of RF field and application support for large scale, high complexity and high visibility projects.

“The global market for smart city solutions is rapidly gathering pace as municipalities recognise the significant benefits of adding intelligence to infrastructure,” said Paul Dunn, sales and marketing director, Telensa. “Our undeniable track record in providing low-power, long range wireless technology that is cost effective, robust and highly adaptable has been central to our recent successes both in the US and worldwide. I’m delighted to be welcoming Tim, Sara and Paul to the team and look forward to our continued success in the market.”

Telensa’s telecells are fitted to streetlights that connect wirelessly to a base station accommodating up to 5,000 telecells over a range of 1-3 miles (urban) or 3-6 miles (rural). Wide area coverage is achieved by linking these base stations in a cellular architecture creating networks of several hundred thousand lights across hundreds of square miles.
