On behalf of the Cities of Providence and Cranston, Rhode Island, the Providence Redevelopment Agency is seeking bids from LED lighting suppliers/manufacturers for an LED street-lighting pilot.

The project will be funded under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The deadline to submit bids is Monday January 31, 2011. Bids will be opened at 2.15 pm in Providence.

Also, there is a mandatory pre-bid walkthrough of all luminaires targeted for replacement, which will be held on Tuesday January 25, 2011 at 10:00 am.

Potential bidders should contact the City of Providence Purchasing Office (401-421-7740, Patti Jordan) to make sure they have the final, complete documents.

The two cities are seeking to replace existing high-pressure sodium (HPS) cobra-head roadway luminaires with LED lighting fixtures in commercial and residential neighborhoods. The LED fixtures must have adequate ventilation to ensure that lighting service is comparable (or exceeds) HPS performance.

Bids are required for a total of 81 fixtures. In Providence, 44 LED street-lights are required to replace existing 250-watt HPS cobra-head fixtures. In Cranston, 37 LED street-lights will replace existing 100-watt cobra heads. In both cases the HPS fixtures are full cut-off roadway luminaires.

Specification criteria for the LED replacements are based on requirements developed by the DesignLights Consortium (www.designlights.org). The criteria include a minimum light output of 1000 lm, minimum luminaire efficacy of 50 lm/W, CCT ,6500K, and minimum CRI of 50.
