Molex and Leviton offering LED lighting modules

Molex 76mm Puck module PM3 Leviton Manufacturing Company, Inc., a manufacturer of electrical and electronic wiring devices for OEM lighting fixture customers, and Molex Incorporated, a supplier of interconnect products worldwide, have entered into a strategic alliance to deliver LED lighting solutions to manufacturers of commercial, industrial and residential lighting fixtures (see press release).

The partnership will align Molex’s newly announced Transcend™ Lighting Series of LED products with Leviton’s extensive distribution and sales networks, which will, say the companies, help to “drive the adoption of LED light source technology to fixture manufacturers on a global scale.”

The two Transcend products launched at Lightfair contain Acriche 4W AC LEDs from Seoul Semiconductor, and can be directly plugged into the AC line voltage without a converter or separate power supply.

The products, offered exclusively through Leviton, are compact, interchangeable modules that address issues such as precise heat and current management. The products are dimmable using Leviton dimmers and can connect to fixtures using Leviton GU24 base sockets.

The new products are part of Molex’s newly-launched Solid State Lighting (SSL) business unit. “The lighting market lacked a full service integrator that answered the needs of all fixture manufacturers, regardless of size or capability,” said Mike Picini, vice president of Solid State Lighting, Molex Incorporated.

“Our SSL business unit leverages Molex’s long-standing electrical, thermal and optical expertise, our design and development capabilities, and our experience in manufacturing high-volume, high-quality products. We developed the Transcend Lighting Series for the LED marketplace to enable more rapid adoption and greater acceptance of LED lighting.”
