2019 was a banner year for the International Roofing Expo. The industry’s biggest roofing show featured the largest expo floor ever, with every booth space sold out. The floor was packed with innovative products and solutions for every type of roof.

Couldn’t make it to Nashville? Here’s what you missed on the show floor.

Reliable Repairs and Retrofits

The only thing worse than a roof leak is not having anything on hand to fix it.

IRE 2019 vendors offered a spectacular array of patching, sealing and flashing products that can stop moisture intrusion, like NOVALINK FP, a flash and patch mastic product that can be used for emergency repairs, and Polyflash 1C, a flashing compound that serves as a temporary repair even in wet weather. Having repair products on hand is invaluable during a severe weather event.

Roofing Trends Seen by EPDM Roofing Association

If you attended the 2019 expo, you also saw an expansive array of retrofit solutions for existing buildings. One such product, RoofSlope, is a compound that fills in the low spots on flat roofs to create a positive slope for drainage—an important consideration given the damage that ponding water can cause.

Roof coatings, like SOPREMA’S ALSAN SIL 402, Uniflex’s Silicone44 or Kool Seal’s Tundra, also resist ponding water, as well as weathering, cracking and peeling.

One Flash Permanent Roof Repair Sealant creates a weather-resistant seal around projections, termination points and other transition areas to stop leaks before they start.

Raising Roof Performance

Roofing solutions that reflect sunlight, add layers of insulation to the roof or reduce labor costs through faster installation keep your projects within budget and make it easier to manage buildings. Dense cover boards like ProtectoR HD, for example, add R-value to your roof and help resist damage from hail, moisture, puncturing and other roof hazards.

Ready for a re-roof or re-cover project?

If it’s time to renew your roof, IRE 2019 had you (and your roof) covered.

Roofing systems like Johns Manville’s self-adhered TPO or components like SOPREMA’s modified bitumen cap sheets will ensure your project meets your performance goals.

Exhibitors even rolled out solutions for light commercial applications with steep-slope roofs, like Daltile’s Perennial porcelain roofing tiles and DaVinci’s Hand-Split Shake Siding, both of which promise to resist conditions from severe weather to pests.

User-Friendly Solutions

No roofing project is complete without all of the layers and tools that make a roof possible. Adhesives like Polyset CR-20 and spray polyurethane foams like Polyset Roof Seal can play an important role in roofing projects.

Other innovations focused on making installation quicker and easier. Blu2White, for example, is an elastomeric roof coating that applies blue so that installers can easily see where they’ve already applied the coating, but dries white to reduce energy costs. Penetrations and corners can be simplified as well—for example, SOPREMA’s ALSAN RS Pre-Cut Fleece comes in pre-cut kits to make it easier to detail around irregular shapes.
