Tool to Improve Roof Thermal Efficiency

Free calculator updated to boost green roofing performance.

The EnergyWise Roof Calculator Online tool has been upgraded to include new features and energy efficiency information from the latest green building codes and standards. The tool from the National Roofing Contractor’s Association (NRCA) uses thermal insulation data requirements from the 2015 International Green Construction Code (IgCC), the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and the 2013 edition of ASHRAE 189.1.

The update also includes a new feature that allows FMs and other building professionals to determine the temperature gradient through roofing assemblies, which can help in assessing the value of a vapor retarder. Additionally, the free calculator can simulate the construction of roof assemblies to measure thermal efficiency performance. New minimum limits for long-term thermal resistance and R-values for polyisocyanurate insulation are also included. Learn more and download the tool at the NRCA’s website.
