Two PV packages offer solar power solutions for new or existing metal roofs. The glass-based crystalline silicon PV modules attach to standing seam roofs with a non-penetrating clamp assembly. They can provide about 10 watts of power per square foot of roof area and weigh 3-4 pounds per square foot.
A flexible thin film version, which provides about 5 watts of power and weighs about 0.75 pounds per square foot, is typically adhered to roof panels in the factory.
Retrofit kits from 700 watts to 60 kilowatts combine polycrystalline or amorphous silicon PV modules with an inverter, disconnect switches, DC wiring, combiner boxes, lightning arrestors, and other necessary equipment and specifications, along with education, guidance, and technical support from MBCI.
