Close to 200 technology providers, systems integrators and forward looking end users redefining smart and connected systems gathered at Haystack Connect 2013 to exchange knowledge and share experiences about smart building technologies, energy management and operational efficiency solutions.

Technology continues to drive rapid change in smart building and device technologies with significant advances being driven by a community of companies creating open, best of breed solutions that work together through a range of open protocols and software interfaces.

During the four day conference attendees participated in interactive sessions and technical programs with recognized industry authorities leading discussions on a wide range of technology topics that are relevant for operating in today’s smart building and connected system environments including cyber protection and prevention, wireless, analytics, lighting, data modeling, visualization, energy and the Cloud. Keynote addresses were given by Marina Leight, Associate Publisher of GOVERNING Magazine, George Hernandez, Technical Advisor with the Department of Energy and Caesar Ruest of Autodesk.

In addition Jason Briggs and Scott Muench of J2 Innovation delighted the crowd with an exciting demonstration that brought together a variety of community technologies, applications and connected systems for the first time. This was the inspiration behind Haystack Connect, an open, community-based effort to find the best solutions to advance the state of the art in intelligent buildings and smart devices and bring them together.

Haystack Connect was also supported by a number of sponsoring and exhibiting companies who shared their latest technologies and solutions that are driving smart buildings and connected devices.

“Haystack Connect is about fostering a culture of innovation; and ecosystems of nontraditional partnerships and allies that lead to radical ways to work together, commented John Petze, Principal, SkyFoundry and community volunteer.  “We are extremely pleased at the number of highly regarded and knowledgeable industry experts who participated in this truly open, independent conference”.

“Haystack Connect showed the importance of how a connected community and connected ecosystem is moving the industry forward in ways in which significant advances are being driven not by a single company, but rather by a community of companies creating open, best of breed solutions and working together through a variety of open protocols and software interfaces”, said Marc Petock, Vice President, Lynxspring and conference community volunteer.
