The DOE has announced a loan guarantee of up to $967 million for the Agua Caliente Solar project in Yuma County, AZ.  The Agua Caliente project will create approximately 400 jobs and produce a 290-megawatt photovoltaic solar generating facility, utilizing thin film panels from First Solar, Inc.

NRG Solar, the project sponsor, estimates that the Agua Caliente will be the largest photovoltaic generation facility in the world.

"Solar projects like this are helping the U.S. to compete globally for the clean energy jobs of today and the future," says U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu.  "The Obama Administration is committed to bringing innovative renewable energy technologies to the market to support the country's transition to a clean energy economy."

The Agua Caliente Solar project is expected to provide clean, emissions-free electricity for 100,000 homes.  The project will deploy fault ride-through and dynamic voltage regulation, technologies new to solar power plants in the United States.
