A $17.1 million loan has been finalized for the AES Westover facility. Located in Johnson City NY, the AES project is designed to provide a new stable, energy-efficient electrical grid for the state.

"The AES project helps reduce carbon emissions and strengthens our energy infrastructure by allowing for more renewable energy sources like solar and wind to contribute to the electrical grid," says Energy Secretary Steven Chu. "Bringing more efficiency and reliability to the grid will help cut costs for consumers and power a cleaner energy future."

AES technology is designed to reduce carbon emissions by 70% in comparison to frequency regulation by fossil energy suppliers. In traditional grid frequency regulation is maintained by burning additional fossil fuels – AES technology eliminates the need to burn fossil fuels and utilizes battery technology to provide the same regulation at a more affordable price.

The AES project includes advanced lithium-ion battery cells and new software, which will allow renewable electricity generation to move to the forefront of New York’s transmission network.
