• Obama Administration Plans Solar Panels for White House

DOE announces solar panels, solar water heater for White House roof.

    Oct. 12, 2010

The DOE has announced that installation of solar panels and a solar water heater on the White House Residence will display that U.S. solar technologies are available and ready for use in homes across the USA. The solar photovoltaic system planned for the White House converts sunlight directly to electricity, while the solar water heater will utilize solar collection from the sun to heat water for use in the White House.

These plans for the White House mark the anniversary of Executive Order 13514 on Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance, which calls upon the federal government to lead by example toward creating a clean energy economy. Will installation of solar panels at the White House inspire other federal facilities to follow suit?
