KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS
Monday, June 14, 8 a.m.: “Green the Ghetto and How Much It Won’t Cost Us.” As executive director and founder of Sustainable South Bronx from 2001 to 2008, Majora Carter started one of the nation’s first green-collar job training and placement systems in one of the most environmentally and economically challenged parts of the United States. A pioneer in a new way of thinking green, Carter has launched a consulting company to export her knowledge base across America. Her work spans the wetlands of Louisiana to the urban prairies of Detroit to rural North Carolina and beyond. Hear more about the growing definition of environmentalism. Presented by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and sponsored by Allsteel.

Tuesday, June 15, 8 a.m.: “A Grand Tour.” Michael Graves will give a short biographical history that centers on key career influences. He will also touch on his life as a “figurative” architect and what that means to his buildings and his art. Presented by ASID, and sponsored by Paoli.

Wednesday, June 16, 8 a.m.: “Design in the Age of 360 Degrees.” We want our products to be about personal expression and the leading edge of innovation while reflecting our 21st-century values. The new role of the designer is to create, and sometimes arbitrate, between these elements of contemporary culture. What are the stories, tools, and strategies we use to practice 360-degree design, asks Yves Behar? Sponsored by Herman Miller.
