ASHE Offers ‘Managing Life Safety’ Online Course

March 11, 2010

To help facility managers manage their building’s life safety program, ASHE is offering Managing Life Safety as part of their ASHE e-learning program. Managing Life Safety is a self-paced, e-learning program that will provide healthcare facility managers and their team with the information and resources needed to manage the facility’s life safety program, including deciphering the various requirements of the Life Safety Code and other standards.

The program provides facility managers with the opportunity to connect with ASHE experts to answer any questions, and provides managers with reference tools such as life safety charts and checklists; a life safety index with Joint Commission standards, CMS K-tags, and NFPA codes; a quick-reference list to locate which lessons covers each code and/or standard topic; and sample ILSM documents.

Program lessons include: Optimizing the Health Care Physical Environment, Introduction to the Joint Commission Standards and Scoring, Defend in Place, Using the Life Safety Code, Building Construction, Protection of Occupants, Hazardous Areas, Means of Egress, Firestopping, Fire Alarm Systems, Fire Suppression Systems, The Statement of Conditions, Managing Life Safety, and Interim Life Safety Measures.

The course is $375 ($325 for ASHE members) and will provide program access for 60 days, allowing students to take the program at their own pace and refer to materials as needed. Students can receive 1.5 CEUs or 15 Contact Hours for the course.

Each e-learning section begins on the first of each month, with registration closing on the 26th of the prior month. For more information, please visit http://www.ashe.org/ashe/education/mls/index.html.
