BOMA Intl. Launches New Building Designation Program

June 4, 2009

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Intl. announced on Monday the launch of the BOMA 360 Performance Program, an online self-assessment that will evaluate properties on six major areas of building management. The groundbreaking new program is designed to recognize commercial properties that demonstrate best practices in building operations and management. The first class of BOMA 360 Performance Buildings will be honored at the 2009 BOMA Intl. Conference and The Office Building Show in Philadelphia on June 29.

“This program takes a holistic view of all aspects of excellence in building operations and management, making it unique to the marketplace today,” says Richard D. Purtell, chair and chief elected officer at BOMA Intl., and portfolio manager at Grubb & Ellis Management Services Inc. “It is a truly revolutionary program that will add value to commercial buildings at a crucial time.”

The BOMA 360 Performance Program will assess every aspect of building performance, allowing building owners and managers to differentiate themselves from competition in a tight market. Buildings are scored based on how they measure up against an extensive checklist of best practices, including emergency and disaster planning and recovery plans, energy management, financial management, equipment maintenance, and education and training.

The specific categories in which the properties are evaluated are: building operations and management, life safety/security/risk management, training and education, energy, environment/sustainability, and tenant relations/community involvement.

“By focusing on all major aspects of building operations and management, BOMA 360 provides a multifaceted benchmark comparing each building to the industry’s best operating practices,” says Ray H. Mackey, Jr., chief operating officer and partner at Stream Realty Partners, LP, and vice chair at BOMA Intl. “Recognition as a BOMA 360 Performance Building provides validation for management teams, confidence for building owners, and peace of mind for building tenants.”
