Aug. 15, 2006
Public comment period opened August 10

The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council recently began soliciting for comments on the first draft of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System for Schools. The public comment period is now open and will remain open until Sunday, September 10, 2006.

According to the USGBC, “LEED for Schools is a market-specific application that recognizes the unique nature of the design and construction of K-12 schools. The draft rating systems is based on LEED for New Construction, and addresses issues such as classroom acoustics, master planning, mold prevention, and more. The application guide, when complete, will be supported by a full suite of supporting tools tailored to schools: a reference guide, workshop, and LEED Online with credit templates.”

The USGBC promises to respond to all comments. Following the close of this public comment period, a new version of the LEED for Schools draft will be posted and a second public comment period will be conducted. To post a comment, visit (http://www.usgbc.org/News/USGBCNewsDetails.aspx?ID=2515).
