Industry Organizations Applaud Energy-Efficient Building Tax Incentives

In a release issued by the Rosslyn, VA-based National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) in early November, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was hailed as a win-win for the government, building industry, and the public. A provision in the act mandates tax incentives when national energy efficiency goals are reached.

According to NEMA President Evan Gaddis, “We are going to do our level best to promote this program, encourage builders, architects, manufacturers, and others to take advantage of it, and work with government toward speedy, effective implementation of the law.” Several organizations are applauding the act and have expressed support including Harry Misuriello, director of buildings and utility programs at the Alliance to Save Energy. Misuriello estimates the impact of the act to be two quads of energy saved in the United States, additional environmental benefits, and a significant reduction in pollution. According to NEMA, the United States currently consumes approximately 100 quads of energy annually.
