Retail Committee releases the LEED-NC Application Guide for Retail

According to a press release issued July 21 from the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the organization’s Retail Committee is proud to announce the call for projects to participate in pilot testing of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System® for New Construction (LEED-NC) Application Guide for Retail. According to the USGBC, “The LEED-NC AGR has been developed to specifically address the unique challenges and opportunities of implementing green building strategies into retail projects by providing tailored credit language and alternative compliance paths as needed.”

During the pilot phase, the Retail Committee will gather market feedback on the applicability of the retail-specific modifications to LEED-NC v2.1/2.2 prerequisites. Once this pilot phase has been completed, revisions will be made and the program will be balloted per USGBC policies and procedures.

The USGBC is seeking participation from 25-50 diverse retail projects to pilot test the LEED-NC AGR over the coming 8 months. Projects in the following sectors are being sought:

  1. Quick service restaurants.
  2. Grocery stores.
  3. Home centers.
  4. Large retail - department stores.
  5. Large retail - big box.
  6. Clothing retail.
  7. Banking/financial services.
  8. Salons.
