Council hopes to become an ANSI-accredited developer of green building standards

In an effort to become a national standards developer for green building practices, the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council announced on Aug. 9, 2005, that it had filed an application with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

“Since its beginnings more than a decade ago, USGBC has used a consensus process to develop the LEED® Green Building Rating System™,” says Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO, and founding chairman, USGBC. “Becoming ANSI-accredited will underscore USGBC’s commitment to its core values, which includes openness, inclusiveness, and collaboration. It is also part of the continual improvement of USGBC.”

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the organization’s chief program for accelerating the adoption of sustainable building practices. For more information on LEED or the USGBC, visit (www.usgbc.org).
