Manual pinpoints strategies for high-performance schools
The Collaborative for High-Performance Schools (CHPS) has published Maintenance & Operations, a publication that provides guidance for maintenance and operations staff, teachers, and administrators. As the fourth volume in the CHPS Best Practices Manual series, Maintenance & Operations contains strategies to avoid improper use of building systems and pinpoints poor maintenance practices that can diminish the benefits of a high-performance school. Introductory chapters contain information tailored to district and managerial staff, with subsequent chapters containing guidelines on topics such as building envelope, lighting, HVAC, landscaping, plumbing, and snow management/de-icing for maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping staff. The 321-page Volume IV-Maintenance & Operations publication was partially funded by the National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities and can be downloaded free of charge at (www.chps.net/manual/index.htm).
