GE's Lighting Institute Announces Courses

Lighting technology changes every day, and many innovative changes and ideas are being born through the renowned Lighting Institute, the world’s foremost lighting training facility with full-scale demonstration centers and a staff of lighting experts. Serving the industry for more than 70 years from GE's historic Nela Park campus in Cleveland, the Lighting Institute has set its conference schedule for the first and second quarters of 2005. Upcoming conferences include:Fundamentals of Commercial and Industrial Lighting
Designed for lighting industry newcomers, this conference provides basic product and application training for commercial and industrial lighting. Various lectures and full-scale lighting demonstrations will provide attendees with an interesting, fast-paced, and comprehensive overview. Topics covered will include lighting terminology; lighting measurements and color; a review of major light source families and systems; and application modules for retail, office, industrial, and outdoor lighting.

Lighting for Safety and Security
Lighting plays a critical role in improving safety and security in commercial and institutional facilities and residential developments. This course explores the proper use of light as part of a full-security system, and the requirements for creating well-lit environments for the occupants. Topics include: specification of appropriate light levels, selection and placement of light sources and equipment, interaction of lighting and closed-circuit surveillance equipment, and the latest research in safety and security lighting.
