BUILDINGS SHOW‚ EAST
NeoCon East announces the debut of The Buildings Show East, sponsored by Buildings magazine and previously seen exclusively at NeoCon World’s Trade Fair. The Buildings Show East is a showcase of building products, services, and resources that will assist attendees in finding solutions for their new construction and renovation projects. Architects, facility managers, building owners, developers, and other professionals from the commercial design community will view the latest in facilities management, construction, and technology.
NeoCon East makes its debut in Baltimore, MD, November 6-7, 2003, at the Baltimore Convention Center. This conference and exposition of inspiring solutions for the design and management of the built interior – and is produced and managed by Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. (MMPI), the same company that produces and manages NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in Chicago.

As a business-oriented trade show for interior design, interior architecture, and facility planning for the design industries, NeoCon East carries with it the history and unparalleled reputation of NeoCon World’s Trade Fair – 35 years in operation – but brings its own style reflective of the design industry to the mid-Atlantic region. Through its exhibition, conference programs, and special networking opportunities, NeoCon East creates a comprehensive design atmosphere featuring Government Interiors, The Buildings Show East and GREENlife™: Products for Sustainable Environments.

"We’re thrilled to host NeoCon East in Baltimore. The Baltimore Convention Center is a convenient and accessible destination for commercial designers and federal government buyers," said Mark Falanga, vice president, commercial furnishings industry, MMPI. "The federal government purchases over $1.5 billion in furnishings through the Arlington, VA-based GSA’s National Furniture Center alone each year. We are aggressively marketing and promoting the show to professionals with buying power, and they won’t want to miss the largest collection of commercial furnishings and services on the East Coast in this convenient location."

NeoCon East is expected to attract between 6,000 and 8,000 interior designers, architects, facility managers, dealers, manufacturers’ representatives, students, federal employees, and corporate executives. Following the successful pattern of each NeoCon show, NeoCon East will present a wide variety of CEU-accredited seminars, special events, and networking opportunities to provide attendees with a complete educational, informational and inspirational experience. "The climate in and around our nation’s capital is vibrant with 429 million square feet of existing office space and another 16 million square feet of new construction," added Falanga. "Commercial furniture manufacturers can maximize their opportunities by showcasing products in an untapped region for NeoCon. It’s a great way to reach new customers in an economy that is on the rebound."
GOVERNMENT INTERIORS
Supported by the GSA–National Furniture Center, the entity that supplies federal government and military agencies with interiors solutions, Government Interiors is dedicated to serving the federal government specifier, designer, and procurement manager. It is the only contract furnishings-focused exposition in the mid-Atlantic to gain the support of the GSA-National Furniture Center. Government Interiors will showcase the innovative products and services available on the GSA schedule. Featuring an exhibition, CEU-accredited seminars and special events, Government Interiors is the most cost-effective way for attendees to explore industry trends and procurement changes, which impact federal acquisitions.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Sponsored by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the keynote address – titled "Celebrating Creativity" – will be delivered by John Waters on Thursday, Nov. 6 at noon on the NeoCon East show floor. Hollywood film director John Waters will bring his unusual flair and perspective of design issues and aesthetics to NeoCon East. A native of Baltimore and an icon of pop culture, he has directed such cult films as "Pink Flamingos," "Cry-Baby," "Cecil B. Demented" and "Hairspray," the latter of which is currently receiving rave reviews in its musical run on Broadway. His films have been featured at Cannes Film Festival, The Berlin Film Festival and in retrospectives both domestically and abroad, including the Cinematheque Francaise, The L.A. County Museum and The Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Hailed as the "Pope of Trash", Waters is sure to enthrall attendees with his wickedly ironic sensibility on "celebrating creativity."
