Active Power Introduces New 1200 KVA UPS

April 23, 2003

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2003--Active Power, Inc. (Nasdaq:ACPW) today announced the first order, totaling approximately $400,000, for two of its new 1200 kVA uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, expected to ship in 8-12 weeks.

Based on Active Power's CleanSource(R) battery-free flywheel technology, the new 1200 kVA UPS utilizes a superior design that incorporates robust digital components throughout, making it the most reliable UPS system on the market. The 1200 kVA UPS extends Active Power's track record as the supplier of the smallest, highest efficiency and most trouble-free UPS systems, protecting the higher power levels required by large data center and industrial applications. This product line will also provide paralleling capability up to 3.6 MVA and includes a 1000 kVA international version.

"This represents a significant milestone for Active Power. We can now effectively compete for megawatt-class UPS projects, which currently represent the largest segment of the battery-free UPS market," said Joe Pinkerton, Chairman and CEO of Active Power, Inc. "Coupled with the introduction of our 65-130 kVA featured recently at NAB 2003, the 1200 kVA UPS solidifies Active Power's position as the UPS manufacturer with the widest range of battery-free power ratings available today."

With hundreds of installations worldwide, CleanSource technology is a proven, reliable alternative to battery-based power quality systems. CleanSource UPS systems provide state-of-the-art power conditioning features including high-speed voltage regulation and active harmonic cancellation. When coupled with a standby generator, CleanSource UPS creates a complete continuous power system that will protect against extended power outages and rolling blackouts.
