General contractor M.J. Harris connects project management with accounting using Event 1 Integrator databridge
ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 4, 2002) - Meridian Project Systems (MPS) announced today at the A/E/C Systems tradeshow that M.J. Harris, Inc. (MJHI) successfully integrated MPS' Prolog software and Timberline® Gold Extended in order to streamline critical business functions into one single system. MPS is a leading software and application service provider of project management solutions. MJHI, a general contractor specializing in design-build and construction management for healthcare projects, selected MPS' Prolog for its powerful project management capabilities designed for the AEC industry. MJHI had relied on both Prolog Manager and Prolog Website for use on the majority of its construction projects. It could not find a single system that had both the highly comprehensive project management features of Prolog, as well as the accounting capabilities from Timberline®. MJHI turned to its local MPS channel partner, HardHat Technologies, and software developer Event 1 to implement a solution that linked Prolog with Timberline®. That solution is a databridge product from Event 1, which links MPS' Prolog with Timberline® Gold Extended.Rick Norris, controller for MJHI, first secured corporate endorsement before beginning the integration. "Effectively merging data between Prolog and Timberline with the Event1 Integrator required buy-in from top management and a commitment to training in order to produce a successful implementation." To reduce risk during the integration effort, Norris developed "test bed" databases to explore various integration scenarios resulting from the merging of the project management and financial systems. Once he felt comfortable with the capabilities and intricacies of each system, Norris implemented a training program with assistance from HardHat Technologies. With the Event1 Integrator in place, MJHI is reaping the benefits of merging information between Prolog and Timberline®. MJHI's accounting staff requires less work to generate contracts and change orders than it did before the integration was complete. Its project managers enter information into Prolog, which is conveniently linked with the accounting program. Actual costs recorded in Timberline® Gold Extended are automatically recognized by Prolog Manager. This gives the project managers faster access to current information and leverages the powerful project control features in Prolog Manager. Information on multiple projects now resides in one database, which can be accessed any time through Prolog. "Project managers now have more control over their data," Norris commented. "Prolog Manager and the Event 1 Integrator allow project management and accounting staff to share current information in a timely manner. We've eliminated duplicate data entry and reduced the possibility of keying errors."For more information on MPS, and to download the complete M.J.
