IR Recognition Systems Introduces New, Low-cost Handpunch 1000 Time & Attendance Terminal

A Biometric Time Clock Truly Affordable For Any Organization

CAMPBELL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2002--IR Recognition Systems, the biometric component of Ingersoll-Rand's (IR) Security & Safety Group's Electronic Access Control Division (EACD), today announced that the convenience of biometric hand geometry, which positively identifies people, eliminating keys, cards or codes, is now affordable and cost effective for all time and attendance applications.

The lower cost of the new HandPunch 1000, which eliminates the expenses associated with employee badges and buddy punching, provides an extremely fast return-on-investment for small businesses. Instead of having to fill out or punch timecards, employees simply place their hands on the HandPunch 1000. It automatically takes a three-dimensional reading of the size and shape of the employee's hand and verifies the user's identity in less than one second.

"The new HandPunch 1000 provides all the power and accuracy of our other HandPunch time and attendance terminals but is designed for smaller enterprises, making biometric technology cost-effective for almost every small business," reports Bill Spence, IR Recognition Systems director of marketing.

According to Spence, the HandPunch 1000 is especially applicable for two uniquely different types of customers. For small businesses, the HandPunch 1000 provides increased convenience for employees since there is no badge to remember. Likewise, it presents the company with an easier-to-administer and lower cost method of time and attendance tracking than either manual or card-based systems.

For larger companies that have many small offices, the HandPunch 1000 eliminates any possibilities of buddy punching, especially important for organizations with minimal supervision. In addition, there are no cards to distribute or the inevitable lost cards to replace, making time and attendance management and tracking much easier.

The HandPunch 1000 includes a standard user memory for 50 employees, an integrated keypad, storage for over 8,000 transactions, a two line/16-character LCD display, power supply, mounting hardware and communications cable. Optional user memory upgrades allow for easy expansion to 100 or 512 users in the field. Additional options include operational battery backup, outdoor enclosures and modem communications.

The HandPunch 1000 as well as the complete line of HandPunch products are available worldwide as part of integrated time and attendance solutions from a wide array of IR Recognition Systems' time and attendance business partners.
