Advanced tool to streamline corporate staff moves, adds, and changes (MACs)
New Orleans, LA,(August 20, 2001) – the CLEAR Edge®, LLP, a developer of enterprise infrastructure management software products, unveiled its new web-based cable infrastructure management and change management system here at the BICSI Fall Conference. The software system – also known as the CLEAR Edge™ – enables corporate network managers and designers, IT engineers, and desktop support staff to efficiently and effectively track network infrastructure moves, adds, and changes (MACs) within the building, campus, or enterprise.the CLEAR Edge system was developed in response to a growing challenge within corporations: high employee turnover rates and increasingly complex IT networks make it difficult for network managers to organize or locate their physical assets, or trace circuits on passive and active network equipment. Often, the result is a tangled network of cables, port connections, and telephony systems that requires costly hours to manage and troubleshoot. As a multi-functional, web-based system, the CLEAR Edge is designed to enable users to manage a variety of infrastructure hardware and software assets, including copper and fiber cabling, horizontal and riser cabling, data network and telephony systems, market data systems, inter- and intra-building networks, and pathway capacity thresholds. At the same time, the CLEAR Edge offers access through any standard web browser and Internet connection. Enterprise customers can access the system on the company’s secure servers 24 hours a day. This web-based application is password protected and Microsoft-centric to allow access and integration to the full range of Microsoft office products, giving users the flexibility to implement it across all departments.“Businesses need a clear view of their networks and assets if they’re going to remain competitive,” Mark Avallone, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the CLEAR Edge. “In this or any other economy, they can’t afford to let their network overwhelm them. the CLEAR Edge is well-positioned to help corporations better manage their enterprise infrastructure. We designed the system so that it would benefit anyone responsible for physical equipment and personnel moves, adds, or changes, from the network manager to the person who has to crawl under desks to identify cable. The system’s many features and ease-of-use interface will help IT and facilities departments save time and money.”Among the cost- and time-saving features built in to the CLEAR Edge are reporting tools which allow users to generate detailed, customized reports in HTML format for easy printing, and export/import capability into Excel spreadsheets. In addition, the user interface is based on Microsoft’s documentation and modeling tool, Visio 2000, providing easily understood graphics and shortening system training time. Other features of the CLEAR Edge include: Windows 2000 and NT platform support; asset management; cross-connect tracing; cable tester integration; support of handheld CE browsers; and conformance to EIA and TIA standards.“the CLEAR Edge’s functionality makes it an invaluable tool for IT personnel, but our system also provides that same functionality to other departments,” said Fred Klerks, Vice President of Business Development for the CLEAR Edge. “If you’re part of the facilities department, for example, you can easily find inventory, asset, and service information; cable designers and installers can improve their projects by using detailed work orders, cable pull schedules, labels, or schematics. We’ve also designed this system for help desk and desktop support staff, system integrators, and architectural design consultants. the CLEAR Edge is truly a multi-faceted system.”The CLEAR Edge is holding demonstrations of its cable infrastructure and change management system during BICSI exhibit hours at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. For more information about the CLEAR Edge or to view a demonstration, visit Booth #93 on the exhibit floor.
