LightSPEC West delivers timely education sessions

Endeavor Business Media’s LightSPEC West conference and expo continues to gain momentum in its second edition. Supported by EBM’s LightSPEC (formerly Architectural SSL) and LEDs Magazine, the biennial conference and expo will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center on April 17–18, 2024. At the time of this update, more than 1,100 influential buyers engaged in the architectural solid-state lighting market have already registered to attend.

LightSPEC West is geared toward professionals involved in the production, distribution, specification, design, and application of LED-based architectural lighting products in the built environment.

“The exhibits will showcase lighting manufacturers covering all the major aspects of lighting. With Endeavor Business Media’s reach into the lighting and associated markets, we are attracting new and different attendees, not the same attendees you will see at private events or other events in Southern California. We are the only show in Southern California that has a mix of agency participation and non-agency affiliated manufacturers,” said Janice Oliva, vice president and group publisher of LightSPEC and LEDs Magazine.

In a learning theater adjacent to the exhibit floor, educational sessions and product demonstrations will offer opportunities to gain insights and earn CEUs from AIA.

Among the courses scheduled is “Health & Wellness: How Lighting Influences Well-Being,” a one-hour session presented by Kara Alexzander, DACM, CNC, LAc. Alexzander, who handles specification sales on the West Coast for Elemental LED Inc., will delve into the significance of color temperature, TM-30 evaluation, lumen output, and color rendering in shaping our experiences with lighting.

In another educational course, National Lighting Contractors Association of America executive director Michael Scalzo will examine “Compliance and Enforcement: Will It Be Ripped Out?” Scalzo notes that despite the granularity of California’s Title 24 energy-efficiency code, neighboring states have seen greater compliance and enforcement for optimal results with lighting and controls. He will discuss the lack of standardization in processes across municipalities and gaps in support for audits and inspections, and propose ways to close these efficiency loops for the best possible outcomes.

Evergreen Consulting Group lighting specialist Angela Pilant will outline how to equip a healthy building with dynamic luminaire-level lighting controls in the session “Building Brilliance: Integrated Controls for Smart and Healthy Spaces.” Pilant, who has expertise in deploying LLLC, will offer registrants a hands-on experience with demonstration kits to enhance their understanding wireless connectivity, configuration, and commissioning.

Parspec CEO Forest Flager will educate the audience on “Lighting Specification and Procurement in the Age of AI.” Flager will quantify the time spent in specifying, quoting, and managing lighting product submittals for projects; then he will demonstrate the potential savings and workforce management opportunities that AI can afford by automating time-consuming processes.
