Recall Issued on Playworld Playground Slides After Two Cases of Finger Amputations

Feb. 8, 2017

About 1,300 slides sold between November 2000 and October 2016 are affected by this recall..

A stainless steel playground slide from manufacturer Playworld has been recalled because welds between the slide bedway and the sidewall can crack and separate, causing an amputation hazard. The manufacturer has received 13 reports of incidents of broken welds, including two children who have had fingers amputated by the slides, according to U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall number 17-718.

Nearly 1,300 slides sold between November 2000 and October 2016 are affected by this recall. There are no identifying marks on the slides, but the recall affects both those with single and double bedways.

Facility managers affected by this recall are instructed to take the slides out of use, and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement and free installation. A temporary barrier will be shipped to consumers prior to shipment of a replacement slide to prevent children from using the slide.

Playworld can be reached at 800‐233‐8404 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email or at https://playworld.com. Click on “Slide Recall Safety Information” for more information.
