Online Tool Helps New Yorkers Traverse Regulations

July 29, 2014

Steamline the building permit approval process.

Buildings Acting Commissioner Thomas Fariello recently unveiled a new online tool called Code Notes to help property owners earn project approval quicker.

Code Notes serves as a step-by-step guide by outlining the applicable codes, zoning, and approvals necessary to obtain a permit.

Objections are typically raised throughout the process, and the onus is on the owner to resolve them. By summarizing requirements, Code Notes helps reduce barriers.

It also centralizes complex information curremtly spread across the City’s Building Code, Zoning Resolution, Fire Code, Multiple Dwelling Law, Energy Conservation Code, and other provisions.

The Department of Buildings is also working to make the construction process more transparent through the Development Hub, which accepts digital construction plans.
