Johnson Controls has announced the launch of the 10th annual Igniting Creative Energy (ICE) Challenge, a national competition for students K-12 to share knowledge, innovation, and ideas about environmental stewardship.

A new category has been added to the competition known as ICE Water, focusing on the water education aspect of modern environmental responsibility.

With 36 states expected to face water shortages in the next 5 years according to a 2008 study by the EPA, adding water conservation to educational efforts is a natural progression of current environmental initiatives.

“When we conserve water, we conserve the energy needed to pump and treat it,” says Bruno Biasiotta, vice president and general manager, Energy Solutions Americas, Johnson Controls. “For the last decade, the ICE Challenge has actively engaged youth to think about energy efficiency. Adding water conservation to this thought process enhances the learning experience for today’s students – our future environmental leaders.”

5 Grand Prize winners, four students and one teacher, will travel to the United States Energy Efficiency Forum to share their projects with leaders, experts, and energy policymakers.
