Energy requirements for the construction industry are getting stricter, requiring more innovative construction practices to be implemented. In late October 2010, code officials from around the country will gather in Charlotte, NC, to vote on energy code proposals that, if adopted, would improve the energy performance of commercial buildings from 20% to 30% as of 2012. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is already building to a 40% increase. Modular construction, due to the process used, can have many advantages over traditional construction in meeting the new energy requirements.
