Learn the Most Up-to-Date Signage for ADA Compliance

March 2, 2017

The animation demonstrates requirements and specifics for signage in and around buildings.

A new animated film is available for viewing on the topic of accessible signage as part of its online guide for standards put forth under the Americans with Disabilities (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act.

Created by the Access Board, the 15-minute film demonstrates the requirements and specifics for signage in and around buildings. It covers provisions for visual access, tactile signs, required access symbols and other pictograms.

“We’re excited to make this resource available so that the provisions for signs are correctly understood and applied,” says Marsha Mazz, Director of the Board’s Office of Technical and Information Services. “The Board receives many questions on this subject, and the new animation is very effective in answering them.”

While this is the latest in a series of videos produced by the Access Board, other videos address other topics such as wheelchair maneuvering, entrances and doors, toilet and bathing facilities, protruding objects and parking and passenger loading zones.

All animations from the Access Board are viewable here.
