For some buildings clean is the new smart

March 22, 2021
A security expert explains why for many employers, the health and safety of building occupants outweighs other workplace considerations.

In the February 2021 issue of Security Business magazine, SecureBI's chief executive officer Brandon Reich describes why "clean" is the new "smart" for tenants in commercial office buildings. These tenants - who are employers - now face employee experience as a competitive characteristic. And if the office environment does not match or exceed employees' work-from-home experience, the employer/building tenant is at a disadvantage.

Reich emphasizes the building's cleanliness as a significant factor in this experience. "Building lobbies will change permanently, as health will be just as important as security," he points out. "Screening kiosks will become the norm. These check-in stations will facilitate health checks, access control, and visitor management."

While Reich's idea that the term "clean building" will emerge to replace "smart building" may not come to fruition entirely, there's no doubt the cleanliness of a building is paramount as the workforce returns to the office environment post-pandemic.
