Updated Standard 90.1-2016 to Increase Energy Efficiency in Buildings

The new standard contains several energy saving measures based on industry input, including 125 incorporated addenda published since the 2013 revision. 

The latest release of of Standard 90.1-2016 creates the base for future building energy-efficiency standards in commercial buildings. ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, was developed by ASHRAE in cooperation with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES). The updated 2016 edition highlights several important changes to reduce energy consumption that will be of interest to FMs and construction community. 

WHAT’S NEW IN 90.1-2016?

Standard 90.1-2016 contains 121 new addenda (since publication of the previous 2013 standard). The new edition includes a new compliance path and a significant change in formatting, intended to improve its overall flexibility and use. A range of technical changes are also included, affecting building envelope, mechanical and lighting systems.
