ABB marks 1 million EV charger sales

Feb. 1, 2023
Among the major ABB projects announced last year was a deal with energy firm EWII to provide 1,350 EV chargers at the Copenhagen Airport.

As reported by EnergyTech, an Endeavor Business Media partner site, Swiss energy technology firm ABB is this winter celebrating the sale of its one-millionth electric vehicle (EV) charger since starting production 13 years ago. ABB announced it reached the seven-digit milestone in a year in which it also doubled EV charger production capacity, with the launch of a $30 million direct-current (DC) fast charger manufacturing facility in Valdarno, Italy, last summer.

The company, which produces both DC and alternating-current (AC) chargers, began production of the European Union’s first 50-kW charger in 2010. It has advanced production to the Terra 360 model, which is capable of delivering 100 kilometers of range in less than three minutes, according to a press release.

ABB E-mobility CEO Frank Mühlon commented:

“While our continual investment in research and development shows our ongoing commitment to enhance the field of e-mobility, it is the global delivery of these solutions at scale which is integral to the realization of our goals. I would like to thank our customers globally for their continued collaboration in hitting this one millionth charger milestone. I look forward to the millions yet to come, and to the cleaner, greener world they will help create.”
